Key signatures
See the signature, name the key.
- 10 to 15 short answers, including repeat practice. Only first answers count toward the score.
- Number keys pick answers, Enter continues.
What this drill covers
The first level is the five most common major keys: C, G, F, D and B flat. Next come the keys with three and four accidentals, then five, six and seven. The last level asks for the relative minor keys of signatures up to four accidentals.
Why it helps
Knowing the key before you play means knowing which black keys will show up all the way through, which removes a whole class of wrong notes from forgotten sharps and flats.
Each round is 10 to 15 questions. Notes you miss come back sooner, notes you know come back later, and the next level opens once most of the current one sticks.
